Language Goonda“Raj”

Taking the democratic values to a new low ,4 M.L.A’s of Maharashtra NavNirman Sena slapped and hit Samajwadi Party  chief Abu Azmi inside the Maharashtra  assembly yesterday. The reason, Abu took the oath as the member of the house in Hindi and not in Marathi.

MNS says the feelings of Marathi’s  were hurt as Abu did not take the oath in Marathi, while Abu defends his action by saying that he is not well versed in Marathi and hence it’s correct on his part to take the oath in the national language Hindi.

Raj Thackrey and his MNS have won mostly on the Marathi manoos plank , its understandable that they wish, that every MLA in Maharashtra takes his oath in Marathi. But a person likes taking an oath in a language of his/her choice, after all it’s he who is making the promise and he should make the promise in a language which is good at and a language that is close to his heart. Now why do you attack him just because he took his oath in Hindi. Moreover Hindi is the national language , it spoken by the majority of people in this country. Hence going against it really seems foolish.

One more thing I wish to condemn is the physical abuse part of it . It has become common for Raj Thackrey and his men in MNS to physically assault people .Previously they attacked the Bihari  students who wished to attend a recruitment test in Mumbai… now they are attacking people in the Assembly itself.

On the other hand Abu Azmi also would do good to learn Marathi ,when you are a legislator of a region learning the local language and its dialects would help you more to connect to the general public. Can’t a legislator do that much for the people and the region he is representing ?????

If you love your language in true sense , standardize the language and make it ubiquitous as far as the state is concerned , this would make people learn it . But the love for the language should be there till it can be called as Abhiman… it should not go to an extent where it can be called durabhimaan. When Abhiman becomes durabhiman we end up eating the peel and leaving the banana. That’s what has happened with Tamil in the past, they went to an extent where people refused to speak the national language. That later on brought problems to Tamils who wanted  to settle in other parts of India.

As an Indian and a responsible citizen I do condemn what ever has happened in the Maharashtra Assembly.Raj and and his followers are crossing n every limit of the civil society .The house has already disqualified 4 M.N.S Legislators for 4 years .Hope the government acts tough on Raj Thackrey and brings him to book. He is behaving more like a goon than like a responsible leader.Acting tough on him and initiating stern action against hime  would set an example for the others in the days to come.

Fatwa on the Vandemataram

India has added one more dubious distinction; it is probably the first nation in the world where a religious group gags its people from reciting the national song and still can walk away with it.

Last week Jamait-e-Ulema Hind issued a fatwa asking muslims not to sing Vandemataram. According to the group, some lines in the national song are against the tenets of Islam .Many other clerics also quickly supported it.

I do not what a common muslim citizen of this country thinks about this , I do not know whether they wish to sing the national song or not . As I am unaware of the Islamic scriptures , I do not know if they allow singing of this verse or not.

But my question is this role one religion got to do with a national song in a secular country??? The constituent assembly , the parliament and the Constitution of India have in unison accepted that the first two stanzas of Vandemataram  are the national song of India. Now how can a religious body issue an order against a community reciting it ?????  One more thing ,when Azad’s (Moulana Abul Kalam Azad ),Rehman’s and Kalam’s had no problem in singing this song what has this ulema got to do against it.

I personally feel each and every Indian citizen should sing this song. Reason??? Imagine the freedom struggle without this song.I somehow believe it was these words which united and electrified the nation. Everyone irrespective of Caste creed and faith used “vandemataram”  as their slogan, now what’s wrong in using the very same song as our national song. Sirji…. You are an Indian, you are protected by the Indian army ,navy ,air force and India’s civil and military institutions ,you reap the benefits Indian governments dole out to you and still you do not want to sing the national song …sorry sirji logic samjh me nahi aa raha hai !!!

Irony we might call it …but it’s A.R. Rahman who remixed Vandmataram and brought it close to this generation next youngistan of India. And it’s the same community that comes out with a fatwa on it. I think these mullahs are pressing for a Hindu-Muslim divide by bringing up a new issue.

Now why is the government not taking any action against these people who issue fatwas against the national song. Whom and what are  they afraid of ???

I was just about to finish of this article with another mouthful  on these clerics , that I got this news on in.msn.com. Some shia  clerics have said that it is not a problem if muslims sing vandemataram . Two Maulana’s , Maulana Hameedul Hasan and Maulana Kalbe Sadiq. Have affirmed this view. Here is the link for the article.

http://news.in.msn.com/national/article.aspx?cp-documentid=3381224

Thank God there are people who speak sense. Hope people like Hameedul Hasan and Kalbe Sadiq dispel the misconceptions in the Muslim brother hood about the national song. Good Job Sudarshan ji for it was his meeting that brought out this statement from the Shia clerics. Good Job Shia Clerics .Good Job RSS.

Never expected this article to complete on this note …….but then its heartening to see that people are coming close and together. Hope their efforts bear fruit.

Games Chinese Play

The Dragon —Elephant confrontation seems inevitable. Here is the latest trick of china.

http://in.news.yahoo.com/43/20091019/876/twl-china-projects-kashmir-as-a-separate.html

They issued separate visas to Kashmir’s, now they took it a step forward and are now distributing maps where Kashmir is being represented as a separate territory.

This Hate India attitude is not new to Chinese; they were the only permanent member of Security Council who opposed the Indo –US nuclear deal. When they could not stop it, they immediately signed a nuclear deal with Pakistan.  After the 26/11 attack on Mumbai, when there was a speculation that India might attack Pakistan they were the first to declare support to Pakistan(unofficially). Few months back there was an article from a Chinese diplomat saying that china should break India into 30 different countries. Recently china was protesting Indian prime ministers visit to Arunachal Pradesh. Now they print maps where India does not have Kashmir .

Their intentions are becoming clearer …they see us as their rivals and want to create a problem in one way or the  other and destabilise this country … time our diplomats in Delhi counter these Games of the Chinese…….

Plight of Hindus in Pakistan

Read this article on yahoo. It hurts to know thatHindus are being discriminated so badly . With such a horrible situation back home , these Pakistanis  criticize us that we do not handle minorities properly.

Here is the article.

http://in.news.yahoo.com/43/20090913/812/tnl-tortured-in-pakistan-hindu-migrants.html

Thanking God for being born to the east of the Radcliffe line ,or these thugs would have butchered me for my religious orientations.

It seems to me that we are a secular nation only because we have a huge Hindu population. Things would have been completely different if Hindus were a minority at the time of Independence.

For the last thousand years Hindus have always been under attack. Muslim rulers tried to convert them using sword and force while Christian organizations are even today trying to convert (and are converting) people by giving them sops. Poor Hindus had to bear the brunt of this.

Let’s hope that things change for good at least in the days to come.

Nobel laureate Obama

I was shocked when I read on the msn site that the president of the United states of America Mr. Barack Obama was chosen for the Nobel peace prize . I read re –read and was not able to believe that even then.

I then searched the online editions f news papers to get the press realease of Nobel peace prize selection committee. Here is an excerpt from the committee’s press release. (Source : http://www.hindustantimes.com/News/world/Statement-from-the-Norwegian-Nobel-Committee/Article1-463141.aspx)

“Obama has as President created a new climate in international politics. Multilateral diplomacy has regained a central position, with emphasis on the role that the United Nations and other international institutions can play. Dialogue and negotiations are preferred as instruments for resolving even the most difficult international conflicts. The vision of a world free from nuclear arms has powerfully stimulated disarmament and arms control negotiations. Thanks to Obama’s initiative, the USA is now playing a more constructive role in meeting the great climatic challenges the world is confronting. Democracy and human rights are to be strengthened.

Only very rarely has a person to the same extent as Obama captured the world’s attention and given its people hope for a better future. His diplomacy is founded in the concept that those who are to lead the world must do so on the basis of values and attitudes that are shared by the majority of the world’s population.”

I was surprised reading this, Obama has been in power only for somewhat around 300 days. We did not see the fruits of his policies as yet. The War in Afghanistan is still there, Obama and his administration are still clueless on how to stop the Iran and N.Korea  from conducting long range nuclear missile tests . when I last read , OBAMA administration was considering increasing the troops in Afghanistan. His government has tripled the aid to Pakistan in spite of the reports that Pakistan has used the aid money for building up its arsenal (against India) rather than building it’s economy.

Personally I am big fan of Obama, but then I do not think his achievements are big enough to win him a Nobel Prize. It’s less than an year that he is in power and the results of his actions are yet to be seen .If the steps he took till now make the world a safer place in the next 2-3 years. Then he should be given the Nobel. But giving it now is definitely an act in haste.   If Obama can get a nobel for what he has done , I think Bill Clinton should have received it long back for the contributions he made. I think something has gone wrong in the selection process.

I loved the way Obama reacted to this award . Here is some the text .

(Source Hindustan times )

“I am both surprised and deeply humbled by the decision of the Nobel committee,” Obama said in his first public reaction to the award in remarks in the White House Rose Garden.

“Let me be clear. I do not view it a recognition of my own accomplishments but rather as an affirmation of American leadership on behalf of aspirations held by people in all nations.”

“To be honest, I do not feel I deserve to be in the company of so many of the transformative figures who have been honored by this prize.”

Thank God , at least the recipient made this point.

Lets hope Obama and his  administration would live up to this honor and contribute to the nuclear disarmament in the days to come.

Save the Fast Bowler

Is it time we (Indians) start saving our young fast bowlers ???? The performance of the Indian contingent in the champion’s trophy would nod its head in affirmation.

The absence of Zaheer khan exposed India’s weaknesses badly. Except for Ashish Nehra now other pacer did justice to his job. What’s more worrying, is the inability of the bowlers to generate pace. They were looking like a bunch of medium pace bowlers who were out of ideas.

Ishant Sharma was not even the shadow of Ishant we saw in Australia. The bowler who used to bowl 140-145 consistently is now bowling at 120-125. His line and length awry, his confidence down, his body language awful, Ishant seemed like an engine nearing it’s burn out.

Ishant is not alone here, we have seen several bright speedsters who lost their way in the middle, remember the fast bowler who once sent the safari’s packing for just 84 runs ,Yes I am speaking of Sree santh where is he now ? For that matter where is Irfan pathan ??? the bowler once tipped to as the future Akram is now harldy making it to the team . Where is Indian Brett Lee Munaf Patel ???? If you remember all these bowlers used to bowl at 140 -15 km ph when they started their careers and in an year or two lost the pace and came down to 120-125 km ph .

All these bowlers gave India good wins , they were successful for some good time ,then we saw them losing sheen and then they were not seen. Is Ishant also getting there????? At least the turn of events seem to suggest that at least for now.

What is causing this? Why do our fast bowlers loose sheen in just an year or two? Why aren’t they able to generate the required pace??

Cricket Pundit’s blame it on the excessive cricket BCCI makes Indian players play. Tight schedules and exhausting IPL are really taking a toll on the players. The effects are more adverse for the fast bowlers as they are more vulnerable to the injuries and the wear and tear of the game. It’s time BCCI and selectors look into this problem and come out with a rotation policy to preserve the speedsters. A rotation policy would save the fast bowlers from excessive cricket and at the same time it would keep the bowlers energetic and hungry for wickets, thus bringing out the best out of them.

The other trouble I see is handling fame and stardom, the media creates so much of hype from every win and makes the player a super star just after the first best performance. The endorsements/endorsement offers follow follow. Handling that instant stardom with humility and not letting the fame and money take the best of them is something these youngsters should learn from Sachins and Dravids of Indian cricket. This would help the young men have good and long careers and benefit India with a good frontline pace attack.

Weak opposition …….

Most of the political analysts agree that TDP and PRP are not performing up to the mark as opposition parties. While PRP is having problems in keeping its flock together .TDP seems to be running out of ideas  both inside and outside the legislative assembly.

During the recent budget session ,both TDP and PRP had nothing new to offer , while TDP was spending time launching personal attacks , asking for more time on adjournment motions and verbal duels with the YSR and Co . PRP was majorly playing the role of a referee. There was no intellectual debate what so ever from either of these parties on any of the bills tabled by the government . The worse these parties had less to offer than minnows like Lok satta. .So why did this situation arise ????

I think this is happening because the opposition is not having an alternative development model . The ruling party and the opposition more or less are having a same development model. Lack of an alternative model is forcing the opposition to take on the delivery system and the delivery mechanism of the existing model ,thus forcing them to launch personal attacks. This inherently is weakening the opposition.

Let me dwell on history for a better understanding ,the congress ruled the state since independence, it was in 1983 that TDP ousted congress from power ,while people’s wish for change and NTR’s image were big contributors  TDP also came up with an alternate development model. NTR brought in something called social welfare schemes in to the governance, It’s not that social welfare schemes were not there before but the schemes NTR brought were massive ,fresh and were something people did not dream before. For example rice at Rs 2 a kilo ,mid day meals at schools etc….similarly in 1992 he came up with complete prohibition(on liquor)  PVP (Prajala Vaddaku Palana) meaning government at the common mans door step, this later became JanmaBhoomi program under Chandrababu Naidu these were not just sops but these were different models of Governance.

Chandrababu Naidu’s regime was different from NTR’s  as the government stopped viewing social welfare as its priority .Efficiency in delivery mechanisms ,attracting capital to the state developing infrastructure ,e-governance and inviting private partnerships in the government organizations and improving the cities were the hallmarks  his development  model .This helped CBN stay in power for 9 years and brought the state back on track

The great padayatra “Prajaprasthanam” in 2003 helped the then opposition leader YSR in realizing the flaws of the above model. 5 years of drought  was taking a toll on the farmers of the state. YSR came up with a development model where welfare schems again became the number 1 priority of the state .The best part was that ,YSR took it efficiently in to the people and got the required votes. Keeping welfare as a priority YSR also inherited the good things from Chandrababu’s development model . Thus YSR’s model is definitely a hard one to find flaws with.

YSR had all the welfare schemes one can think of , rice @ Rs 2 a k.g. ,free electricity, no increase in electricity tariff, no change in RTC prices, aarogysree a free  health insurance coverage,108 …an emergency medical service ,104.. a preemptive medical service ,Houses under Indiramma scheme, loans to rural women @pavala vaddi ,Rajiv Gruha kalpa ,tripling the old age pensions ,special pensions for the physically and mentally challenged people ,a good hike to all the state government employees .He promised and gave almost everything one could dream of…..

At the same time ,his development model had enough on industrial development front as well, A.P. today has the highest number of Special Econimic Zones in the country.Jalayagnam ,his flag ship program to improve agricultural infrastructure is moving on at an okayable pace .

The model looks good ,but it is not the only alternative. TDP and PRP should come out with different visions and models that contribute to the development of the country .They both committed a big blunder in 2009 by trying to increase the sops. Any common man would understand that the sops offered by Y.S are too much in themselves and there is no need of increasing them.

TDP and PRP should come up with alternate models(better ones than the current model) in the next 4 years .Their job does not stop there , they need to take the model into people and convince them that it is a better model. That’s the only way an opposition can ever become strong  and win an election .Hope these parties do that . -
